If you are a fan of rock music, this post is for you. July 13th is World Rock Day and as loyal fans we want to celebrate it by remembering the rock bands with the best #goodvibes of the moment.

World Rock Day

In 1985, the biggest concert in history was held. You’ve probably heard of LIVE AID. It was a charity concert that brought together the bands that were the biggest hit at the time and still are.
Stars such as Led Zeppelin, Status Quo, Queen, Sting and U2 performed there for 16 hours. And with them, artists such as Bob Dylan, Elton John, Madonna and Paul McCartney.
We all know that black is the hallmark of any good rocker. That’s why our catalogue of filaments for 3D printing cannot be without the black colour: “Jet Black” and one of our latest releases with silver particles, “Stardust”.

These filaments are available in all materials: PETG, ASA, PLA-HD,  PLA-850, Flexible, Flexible TPE, ABS.
With two thicknesses to choose from; 1.75mm or 2.85mm.
And in different coils: 250gr, 300gr, 1kg, 3kg 5kg or 8kg.

PLA filament in black color

PLA (polylactic acid) plastic is one of the most popular materials for 3D printing, thanks to its ease of use and environmentally friendly characteristics. Made from renewable resources such as corn and sugar cane, PLA is a biodegradable polymer, making it the preferred choice for both beginners and professionals in the 3D printing field.

Properties of PLA filament

PLA offers a number of characteristics that make it ideal for various applications:

  • Biodegradable and sustainable: Unlike traditional petroleum-derived plastics, PLA is derived from natural sources and can be broken down through composting, offering a more environmentally friendly solution.
  • Easy to print: With a low melting point, PLA is easily extruded and adheres well to the print bed. It does not require a heated bed, simplifying the printing process and reducing costs.
  • Minimal shrinkage and warping: PLA has little shrinkage and warping during cooling, resulting in more precise prints and less warping, especially useful for large parts.
Wide range of colors and finishes: It is available in a wide variety of colors and finishes, including special effects such as gloss, phosphorescent and metallic. Black filament is one of the most popular.
  • These properties make PLA a versatile and attractive material for a wide range of 3D printing projects.

Curiosities about LIVE AID that you may not know

The concert was held in huge sports venues simultaneously in the US and UK to raise funds to fight famine in Africa. It is estimated that over 100 million dollars were raised!

As expected for a concert of that caliber, there was an extensive technological deployment: thirteen satellites in a live television broadcast, which reached more than 72 countries and had an audience of more than 1.5 billion viewers.
Everyone remembers Freddie Mercury’s incomparable vocal duel with the audience or the moment when Bono went down to the dance floor to help a woman from the audience get on stage to dance with her. As in many families, there is always the typical black sheep, and in this case the long-awaited Led Zeppelin concert finally turned out to be a disaster.
For this reason, and I’m sure you will like this, we leave here two websites where you can download STL files and create amazing figures like this with your 3D printer and our filament: Thingiverse y Cults 3D.

LIVE AID, the concert that marked rock music.

In addition, general culture that we give you , the iconic Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, composed for this concert the classic “We are the world”, and incidentally left an anthem for history.
They say that sharing is living, so we leave you one of our favorite Spotify playlist to celebrate this day with the best music and do not forget to also follow our profile.

What is the PLA 870 annealing process?

The oven annealing process of a filament is a thermal treatment widely used in the post-processing of 3D printed parts. With this technique, we seek to improve firmness, tensile strength and heat resistance. It is true that the vast majority of makers love to print with PLA filament, because it is cheaper, because of the […]

Why do we at Winkle vacuum pack our coils?

At Winkle we vacuum pack our spools to avoid the problem of under-extrusion, which is caused by the presence of moisture in the filament. If the spool is not dry, you can have low quality prints. To know if the filament is wet, you can see if the material is not smooth and contains bubbles […]
