September is a month of welcome and new beginnings. And as we have been warning, it is a month of many new things at Winkle.
We present our NEW WOOD RANGE!

Our PLA-WOOD filament (1.75mm) is a filament made in Spain for 3D printers with FFF/FDM technology. Composed of a PLA base and a 40% wood fiber content. This textured filament based on natural fibers gives the final piece a wood look, feel, and appearance. Ideal for making decorative pieces with a wood-like finish.
It has excellent resolution in 3D printing and many design possibilities. It is flexible, resistant, and biodegradable.

In addition, it will be available in 2 new colors: maple wood and pine wood.

PLA-WOOD filament: Natural and resistant

Characteristics of PLA Wood or wood

This filament offers a truly natural finish both in appearance and touch.
Winkle’s PLA Wood or wood contains a high percentage of natural wood fibers that exceeds 40%. For a natural and rustic finish!
Being composed of 40% organic matter, such as wood, during the printing of the same piece the tone can vary if the temperature is changed. It is a filament resistant to thermal deformation and easy to print; a nozzle of at least 0.6 mm is recommended to avoid jams.
Applications:

  • Pieces that require a wood-like aesthetic and feel.
  • Prototypes.
  • Decoration.
  • Visual models.
  • Educational projects.

Would you like to print pieces with the texture and appearance of wood? Now it’s possible! At Winkle we are up to date with innovation and creativity. We look for the best in filaments for our clients and that’s why we offer you PLA Wood; known for its aesthetic characteristics similar to wood. This filament has a high wood content in its composition, making it the ideal choice for creating objects that appear to be made entirely of wood.

Wood filament printing tips

The first thing you need to know is that this filament is compatible with most printers on the market.
The wood effect filament can be printed in the same way as we do with PLA, since it is the same material but with real wood fibers.
The main problems you may have are over-extrusion and threads, things that can be solved with some adjustments.

  • This filament does not need a heated bed.
  • It is recommended to print with a layer height greater than 0.2 mm and 0.6 mm nozzles.
  • It is important to avoid the material heating up in the extruder while the print is on standby because blockages may occur due to crystallization of the material.
  • The surface appearance can be varied by increasing the printing temperature, taking darker tones.
  • The wood effect is best distinguished with pronounced layer heights, the higher the layer height, the more wood effect.
  • The printed parts can be easily painted, cut and sanded, giving them an even more realistic finish.
